How to Celebrate Mother’s Day

Click here to download this article

Parents are to guide children so that they may live a lifestyle that is ideal in God’s eyes, but many people do not take advantage of God’s nor their parents’ teachings. I am very happy to have my mom because without her, I would be lost. She taught me many things about God and His Word and it has helps me every day.

“Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Psalms 119:105

Unfortunately, Mother’s Day is only once a year. It is unfortunate because many think because it is only for one day they should only honor their parents for one day.

Jeremiah 1:18

“For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.”

More than 2,600 years ago these words were spoken by God to a teenager whose name was Jeremiah. It was in the thirteenth year of the reign of Josiah, about 629 B.C. At that time the kingdom of Judah was free of idolatry. King Josiah had destroyed all forms of idolatry, repaired the temple of God, and reestablished the Passover and the worship of God accordingly to the law of Moses. He also “…made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, and to perform the words of the covenant which are written in”the book of God’s law (II Chronicles 34:31).

What Easter Meant to Me

Click here to download this article

I always used to look forward to Easter. It was one of my favorite holidays of the year. The church would hold an annual egg hunt and have us do Easter crafts in Sunday school. I even got to decorate eggs that would soon smell and rot, but it was all worth it for the fun. But is doing all of that worth it for what God wants us to do?

My focus about Easter is what most Christian parents allow their children to believe when it comes to Easter. I never thought the Easter Bunny was real, but I enjoyed it when someone in a rabbit costume gave me candy or a really pretty plastic egg. Now that I know the true origin of the pagan Easter holiday, I am more aware about what I believe and follow, especially if people, not God, set the trend.

I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.- 2 John 1:4

What Valentine’s Day Means to God

Click here to download this article

The month of February is known best for Valentine’s Day. On February 14, couples and seeking singles express their love to another. People celebrate Valentine’s Day by giving candy, jewelry, flowers, and their love to another. Let us quickly go over the origin of this “Christian” holiday.

Origin

At around the 4th century, a Roman fertility ritual or holiday called Lupercalia, named after the god of shepherds, Lupercus, was a holiday in which men would take strips of goat hides, dip them in blood, and then hit women with the hides. After that, a matchmaking “game” then took place in which young men would draw names of young women of the town from an urn. The couple would then be together for the year until the next Lupercalia celebration. Another reason why the Romans celebrated this annual activity was to remember and honor the legend of Lupa. Lupa was a female wolf who nursed Romulus and Remus when they were babies. Later, Romulus and Remus found Rome in 753 B.C. Lupercalia was celebrated on Feb. 13th -15th.

Our Biblical Beliefs

Dear Readers,

We are a Christian family but we are not Seventh Day Adventists.

Our biblical beliefs are the same as the Seventh Day Baptist churches [1] by which we honor and keep the Sabbath day which is from the evening of the sixth day through the evening of the seventh day.

In addition, we do not celebrate nor participate in any "Christian Holiday" which is not taught in the Bible such as Easter and Christmas.

We pray that this website will always be a service to our Lord Jesus Christ and His Church.

I. God

We believe in one God, infinite and perfect, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe who exists eternally in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—and desires to share His love in a personal relationship with everyone.

Archaeological Evidence for Sodom: Recent Findings Shed Light on Discoveries of ‘Biblical Proportions’

By Brian Nixon

There are few events in a person’s life where one can say that they have changed a society’s understanding of history. For Dr. Steven Collins of Trinity Southwest University in Albuquerque, this just may be the case.

Upon his recent return from the Tall el-Hammam dig in Jordan, Dr. Collins was full of fascinating facts and possible historic findings.

But before I get into his recent finds, allow me to review what occurred during last year’s dig.

In my article “Sodom Found?” I wrote, “According to Collins, ‘The traditional "Southern Theory" site of Sodom does not have the geographical parallels described in the [biblical] text. Namely: 1. One can see the whole area from the hills above Jericho (Bethel/Ai), 2. It must be a well-watered place (described "like Egypt"), 3. It has a river running through it (the Jordan), and 4. It must follow the travel route of Lot" (who went to the other side of the Jordan, eastward, away from Jericho.)’”

Once a Year for Everything?

After the pilgrims came to America, in the first year they were losing half of their people due to the harsh winter and they had nothing left except for a low supply of food and disease. By the second winter, they were prepared, thanks to God, who used the Native Americans to help them, for they had a successful crop, which enabled them to start a new life with freedom in good land. Together, with the Native Americans, the pilgrims held a feast to thank God, which is the origin of Thanksgiving.

Many people here in America learned this when they were in school, when they made turkeys out of paper or made Indian head bands with feathers on them. It’s something everybody knows. The thing that wasn’t taught in public schools is how to thank God for what you have. It’s simple to do, though. All that has to be done is to say, “Thank you God for what I have and what you have given me today, Lord,” from the heart. Why, then, do some Christians forget to say a simple gratitude to God?

South Sudan has only existed as a country for a little over two months. But already in that time the fledgling nation has found itself embroiled in the Israeli-Arab conflict.

And South Sudan has clearly marked itself as a friend of the Jewish state.

During a visit to South Sudan last month by Israeli lawmaker Danny Danon, South Sudanese President Salva Kiir said that he was recently approached by Hamas and told he must sever all ties to Israel because Sudan is an Arab state.

After reminding the Hamas leaders that South Sudan, unlike its northern neighbor, is not an Arab state, Kiir noted that there are Israeli embassies in Arab countries like Egypt and Jordan.

Rather than cut ties with Israel, Kiir said South Sudan intends to strengthen its relations with the Jewish state.

Demonstrating that his friendship for Israel goes beyond just words, Kiir reportedly agreed to Danon's request that South Sudan buck the international trend and build its embassy in Jerusalem. Every other nation in the world that has diplomatic relations with Israel refuses to accept Jerusalem as its capital, and instead those nations maintain their embassies in Tel Aviv.

South Sudan's affinity for Israel goes beyond the diplomatic considerations of the current government.

The young country's deputy parliament speaker, Daniel Akot, declared that "Israel is like a big brother to South Sudan," and recalled seeing more than one person waving an Israeli flag when South Sudan declared independence on July 9.

Danon and Kiir also discussed the many black Sudanese refugees currently living in Israel after fleeing oppression by Arab militias allied with the Sudanese government in Khartoum.

Kiir asked Danon to help facilitate vocational training for the refugees so they can return home and become productive and successful members of their new nation.

What Do You Think of God?

Click here to download this article

When you think of God, what do you really think? Well, when I think of God, I think of Jesus, the Bible, and holiness. Why Jesus? Because He is our way to Heaven and is our savior. The Bible is the book about God and Jesus. God is holy in many ways.

First of all, He is fair and righteous. Second of all, He is our true savior and God. Last of all, is that our God is truthful and merciful. Our God in Heaven has sacrificed his only son to save us from destruction. What we think of God is important, because we have to truly believe in Him if we want to go to Heaven.

Remember the Sabbath Day

"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it."

We observe that in the book of John, Jesus tells us that in order to bear fruit we must abide in him. He goes on to tell us that the way we abide in him is to keep His commandments. The instruction to keep the sabbath day holy is one of those commandments.

The Sabbath described in Genesis 2 is definitely the seventh day, Saturday, and not the first day, Sunday.

There is no way to avoid this truth.

The fourth commandment was established at the creation of the world and later reconfirmed to Moses in the wilderness by Jesus.

The Sabbath was very important to people of the Bible and even though calendars may have changed, it would be inconceivable for the Sabbath day to have been confused with any other day. Chronologist are in agreement that the order of days is the same today as at the beginning of history. In addition, Jesus recognized the Sabbath and would have certainly known which day He had commanded to be kept holy.

Free Will: God's Gift

Free will is a gift to take advantage of. It determines the future, the people we'll meet, the things we'll do, who we will become... For teenagers like me, it's hard to control ourselves with this gift. Life is all about choices, and if the time ever comes that it's hard to know what to do, God will always be there to help choose the right path.

I know some people at school who have made bad choices when they just could have said, "No." There is no such thing as the excuse, "I didn't have a choice." There is always a choice. Not all choices seem significant but all choices are necessary. My teachers always said, "Say no to drugs," and when we were little we could never think of ourselves smoking or doing drugs. It may not be as easy as I thought it was to say no because of the people I know have turned to drugs to comfort them and to get away from stress. Teachers can't be enough to help us; the parents need to do something too. I am just a child. When I do something wrong, it's not my fault unless I know it's wrong. If my parents hadn't have taught me what was right and what was wrong, then I would be a really bad kid! How would I know that? In my 14 years on earth, I have faced so many temptations. I know that if my parents didn't teach me well, I would be lost.

The Father's Day

Father’s day is a day that we respect our fathers, and to some people it’s the only time they actually are willing to spend time with their fathers.

We should remember the things that our fathers have done for us. We not only have a father on earth, but a father in heaven too. Our father in heaven is God; without God we wouldn’t even exist!  We should not only respect our fathers on Father’s Day, but we should respect them every day. We should obey the rules of God and our father’s on earth. It is even said in the Ten Commandments, “Honor your mother and father.”

Discipline is also good for you, whether you like it or not. Discipline is like medicine, it’s bitter but good for you. Whenever I was sick or had the flu my dad made me drink some medicine that I didn’t like, but I still took it. The medicine eventually healed me. It is like when the “cup” was passed to Jesus. Although He didn’t want to drink it He did it for God. Before, I made C’s, B’s, and A’s, so my dad grounded me until I made straight A’s. He also made me do math problems from a textbook. At first I hated it, but I ended up making straight A’s.

Trust

We all trust somebody.  What’s important is the person we trust.  Ask yourself these questions to know what a trustworthy person is: Are they honest?  Do you know them?  Are they true Christians?   If you answered yes to all of these questions, the chances are that that person is someone you can trust.  But someone you should always trust in is God: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  If you need help from God He will be willing to help, but what you have to do is to trust and believe in Him.  Everybody that believes in God should trust Him.

Some bad choices to trust in are false prophets.  These people will lead you away from God.  If you are going to trust a prophet or pastor then you should check their relationship with God.  If they have a bad relationship then you should stay away from that person.  You should not trust things like money, because nothing lasts except God.

No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.(Mathew 6:24)

One Day

One Day

One day, my family and I were watching a movie.  In the movie the main character had the power to go back in time.  Although this movie is fiction we can relate to this movie because the main character in the movie has to go back in time to fix his mistakes before they happen. I can relate to this because I have made mistakes that make my mom upset.  An example is when my mom tells me to do something and I do it the wrong way, so if I had the power to go back in time, I would also fix my mistakes.

According to the fifth commandment you must obey your mother and father.  If you do something hurtful to your parents, then you should not only ask your parents for forgiveness, but you should also ask God for forgiveness because you have broken the fifth commandment.  I admit to making my mother disappointed when I did not do what she asks me to do correctly, so I have to ask her for forgiveness and ask God for forgiveness too.

This is the fifth commandment: “Honor you father and mother, so that you may live in the land that the Lord your God has giving you”  (Exodus 19:12).

A Little Appreciation

There are so many blessings I would like to write about from 2010, but for now I will start with this. Every year at my school, we have an event called Coronation. Coronation is mainly for the high school, but the middle school is also included in this traditional event. Allow me to explain what Coronation is. The definition of the word coronation is this: the ceremony of installing a new monarch. That's the high school's part. For each class (freshman, sophomore, Junior, and Senior) they have to pick their candidate for King and Queen. The King and Queen are decided on how much money they raise for scholarships. For middle school, instead of picking a queen and king, we have Duchess and Duke. Duke and Duchess is the highest rank below King and Queen when it comes to royalty.

Christian Qualities

What qualities do you think a true Christian has; honesty, humility, or perhaps wisdom? Do you think a real Christian would talk behind another person’s back; No, of course not, but there are many teenage Christians out there that do things like this.  As teenagers, there are many temptations out there in the world, also known as peer pressure.

In my school, we have a group called F.I.S.H, which stands for Faithfully I Serve Him. It’s a Christian group that my school started. Every Wednesday, most people go into the classroom during lunch. I’ve been there a couple of times, but all they basically do is listen to music and eat. There are many students there that say they are real Christians and they try not to give in to pressure, but outside the classroom during lunch another day, they shortcut students in the lunch line and they gossip about other students. Gossip, breaking rules, etc... Are those Christian qualities?

What's Is Christmas About?

What's Is Christmas About?

Do you celebrate Christmas? Do you know why you are celebrating it? Well, if Christmas is about Jesus’ birthday, then why is there “Santa Claus?” Why would there be a Christmas tree? What do these have to do with Jesus? How do we know Jesus’ birthday is on December 25? Where does it say in the Bible that every December 25th we have to decorate pine trees and buy gifts? How could the shepherds let their sheep out in the Winter?

When I was around 6-7 years old, my family and I celebrated Christmas, but when we learned about the true meaning of Christmas, we stopped celebrating it. After we found out the truth about Christmas, we threw out everything we had that had to do with Christmas.

Even today, Christians still celebrate Christmas. Christmas is also a pagan holiday. The Bible said to not decorate a tree with gold, silver, jewels... (Jeremiah 10:2-4). Who made up Santa Claus? If this holiday is about Christ, why add Santa Claus? Santa Claus is just a distraction from God, Santa Claus is not the one that gives gifts but only God gives gifts. We need to stay away from these things because they will distract us from God instead of celebrating Him.

Jay's Story

My name is Jay Huynh and I am eleven years old. I accepted Jesus when I was nine years old. Before I accepted Jesus, I did not understand why I worshipped God or why I should believed in God, either. The reason I accepted Jesus was because I wanted to be saved and to learn more about Him.

A while after I accepted Jesus, I was playing an online computer game. A person playing the game said that Jesus was pointless and that believing in him was stupid, but I started talking about hell and what would become of non-believers.

Now, I read the Bible everyday and I know more about God and His word. I also pray every day for the world so that one day many people would believe in Him and for Him to help them. Before I fully accepted Jesus, I always wanted to become a firefighter, or a police man, and I also wanted to become part of the military. I understood that these things could save people’s lives, but it couldn’t save them when they are in the after-life. Then, I decided to be a pastor like my dad.

Three Days to See

Three Days to See

Sight is a gift. Without it, we wouldn’t do much. Life wouldn’t be as we know it now.  But if I had three days to see, I would want to make the most of it. Three days isn’t a lot of time. But in this short period of time, this is what I would do.

On the first day, I will first spend time to thank God. “Why would you want to go blind,” you may ask. I don’t want to go blind, but I have to thank God. He let it happen for a reason. No matter what happens, you need to thank Him and for what you lose or don’t have on earth, God will give you something much better in heaven. After that, I will take a walk around the neighborhood. I want to look at the houses I live near and I want to see for the last time the faces of my neighbors. Finally, I would walk through a garden, any place will do, as long there are lots of plants or animals. I would use that time to appreciate God’s creations. I want to appreciate the colors of the flowers and all the creatures that would come my way. I would use this first day to appreciate nature and my surroundings.

Grace’s Life Changing Event

Since the beginning of the world, things have been changing. Changes happen every day. The change could be small or the change could alter humanity, drastically. But, what about the personal individual changes that happen in our private life? Those individual changes are the most important changes of all, to each one of us.

It was about eight years ago, there was an important change happened to me. I was born into a Christian family. My father was born into a Christian family, too. My mother accepted Jesus in prayer a year before I turned five. I first heard about Jesus and what he did for us on the cross in Sunday school. When I turned six years old, I wanted to accept Jesus Christ as my Savior. At home, I told my parents this. My parents thought I was too young to understand about why Jesus died on the cross for all of mankind. And, of course, I had to admit that I was a sinner in order to accept Jesus as my Savior. My dad asked me questions regarding these things.

“Do you know what sin is?”

“Yes!”

“What is sin?”
